Transit fares and taxes will be going up to help cover money problems at TransLink. That’s been confirmed as the provincial government promises to kick in an additional third-of-a-billion dollars over the next three years. TransLink says the extra money is needed to update its system. TransLink currently collects money from transit fares, rental space and numerous taxes including those on utility bills, Metro Vancouver gas, downtown parking, property and general income.
Premier David Eby is again telling government departments and Crown corporations to find ways to cancel U.S. contracts, software subscriptions and magazines. Eby has ordered a review of such contracts saying B.C. has to be ‘prepared to stand on its own two feet.’ He has also confirmed the government will not be pursuing any contracts with Elon Musk’s Starlink.
