Vancouver Rundown Friday April 4, 2025
Summary
While denouncing any talk of western separatism, Premier David Eby does say he wants to bring in more U.S. immigrants. He says that would help bolster the B.C. economy. The comments come in reaction to Wednesday’s tariff announcement by Donald Trump that left the province mostly unscathed. Eby claims American medical professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs increasingly want to leave the States and work in Canada.
Other news…
Former Cloverdale-Langley City MP John Aldag, who quit the federal Liberals in a failed bid to run for the provincial NDP, now wants to head back to Ottawa. Aldag has taken over as the Liberal candidate in neighbouring Fraser Heights-Langley Township. The move comes only weeks after he underwent major heart surgery.
A pedestrian has been struck and killed in what police describe as an unavoidable crash that shut down the Coquihalla Highway for several hours. It happened early Thursday morning just south of Merritt. Police are still trying to figure out why the man tried to cross the highway.
A woman remains in critical condition after being hit by a train while crossing tracks in East Vancouver. It happened Tuesday morning near Heatley Avenue and Alexander Street when she trespassed onto the tracks. She suffered a broken pelvis after being pinned for a short-time.
Fog patches Friday morning, giving way to sunshine. Sunny on Saturday. Cloudy with the slight chance of showers Sunday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
