Vancouver Rundown Friday December 13, 2024
Summary
B.C. is once again offering huge tax breaks to film and TV production companies in an effort to keep studios shooting in the province. Premier David Eby has announced the BC Film Incentive tax credit will increase slightly from 35 to 36 percent. The production services tax credit will go up from the current 28 per cent to 36 per cent starting in January. Bonuses are also being offered for big budget productions. The Surrey Board of Trade calls the announcement a win for both film production and businesses across the province.
Other news…
Flair Airlines has announced it will increase service between Vancouver and Abbotsford and the two largest cities in Alberta. The extra flights will start in April and increase by as many as 340 extra trips this summer. Abbotsford Mayor Ross Siemens tells Global News the expanded service will make travel more accessible for those who don’t want to go to Vancouver in order to fly to Alberta.
Turnout for advance voting in the Cloverdale-Langley City byelection has been low. Elections Canada says only a few thousand voters cast ballots between Dec. 6 and Dec.9. The byelection is Monday with polls open between 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Greenhouses or some sort of alien visitations? That’s what some people are debating as more people in areas around Surrey and Delta spot multi-coloured lights in the night sky. Daily Hive reports many have gone on social media to share photos of the streaks of light spotted in the clouds in areas like Cloverdale. Some of the more worldly explanations include ice crystals causing optical illusions or bright lights bouncing off commercial cannabis greenhouses.
Rain and gusty winds for both Friday and Saturday…especially near the water. Showers on Sunday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
