Summary
And the snow turned into rain. Or at least freezing rain. That’s the latest change in weather, capping off a couple challenging days of harsh winter conditions around the Lower Mainland. Travel by road was still described as dangerous in many areas Thursday evening.
Other news…
A man has died after being hit by a snowplow in a rural area of east Abbotsford. It happened before sunrise Thursday morning near North Parallel and Fooks roads. The driver of the privately contracted pickup and plow stayed at the scene to cooperate with police.
There may be big problems for those who use Metro Vancouver Transit come Monday morning. A full-scale strike is likely and could shutdown buses and the SeaBus. CUPE represent members say the company has not responded to its latest off in the ongoing contract dispute.
It really doesn’t matter what you call the neighbourhood…Surrey Central, Downtown Surrey or even Whalley…the area is about to get another jolt of high rise gentrification. Surrey has given the green light to three residential skyscrapers ranging from 50 to 65 storeys. A 15 storey, 2,000 room hotel will also be built - all near King George and 136. One of the architects describes it as being like a city within a city.
Finally…rain. Friday will be the start of several days of rain and warmer temperatures which may result in street flooding in some areas. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
