The very tenuous Surrey Police Service will be asking Mayor Brenda Locke and City Council to approve a $141 million budget that includes hiring another 180 officers. That move will be the latest attempt to transition from the RCMP to a SPS - something being fought in the courts by Locke and the City. So far, there is no official response from the City.

That’s a tough lesson for a Grade 8 student in Surrey who has been sentenced to six months community service and another six months probation. Court heard the boy took the gun to school, showed it to his friends in the washroom and then went outside to fire it in a wooded area. Some of that gun toting nonsense was posted to social media.
Downed power lines closed Highway 99 for a couple of hours in South Surrey late Thursday morning. It happened near the King George interchange and knocked out power to close to 3,000 residents. The cause - the driver of a car smashed into a power pole at around 10:00 a.m.
