It comes after the federal Conservative party rejected his bid to run in Abbotsford-South Langley - choosing 25-year-old blueberry farmer and university student Sukhman Gill instead. According to de Jong, party staffers declared him not qualified to run for Parliament as a Conservative.

The hunt continues for the man convicted in the deadly, botched Lower Mainland kidnapping of an international student almost ten years ago. Tian Yi Eddie Zhang, 32, didn’t turn up for a meeting with his parole officer in New Westminster and remains at large. Zhang pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a victim whose body was found in a car in North Vancouver in September 2015. It’s believed that person was the victim of a targeted kidnapping.
No one is seriously injured after a semi flipped and caught fire on Highway One in Abbotsford early Thursday morning. The freeway was shutdown for several hours after the 3:00 a.m. crash. The weather was absolute shit at the time.
