Vancouver Rundown Friday March 7, 2025
Summary
The trust is gone - with those words, Premier David Eby has announced a provincial toll for trucks heading through B.C. to Alaska. Eby calls it a show of strength and an answer to the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump that are hurting families on both sides of the border. The move comes as Trump announces a pause on some tariffs for Canadian and Mexican goods until April 2. The new B.C. legislation also allows for the removal of many interprovincial trade barriers.
Other news…
Taxpayers are now footing the bill for Mayor Ken Sim to get increased police protection. The heightened security follows bomb threats, protester visits and the odd shove directed at the mayor of Vancouver. It’s also in addition to the quarter-of-a-million dollars already spent on extra police protection for Sim over the past four months.
Another patient in the Fraser Health Region has come down with a case of the measles. Health officials say this one is not related to previous infections in the Lower Mainland last month but is thought to have been picked up during a visit to Southeast Asia. Fraser Health warns patients who visited the Royal Columbian emergency ward between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning may have been exposed - those with symptoms are asked to call health care providers before heading to any clinic or emergency room.
One person is dead, another is badly hurt after a crash on Highway 10 near 144 Street in Surrey. It happened at around 7:00 a.m. Thursday. The cause is still being figured out.
A mix of sun and cloud for Friday. Rain for Saturday and Sunday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
