A massive apartment fire in Coquitlam early Thursday morning has left 100 people looking for a new place to sleep. Two tenants were rescued but a firefighter suffered a leg injury in the blaze on Gatensbury Street. There’s no early word on a cause. Structural engineers will be examining the building to see if it’s safe to enter.

Be aware of cryptocurrency scams…that’s the warning from Surrey RCMP. The Mounties say residents lost close to $12 million last year due to crypto scams. Most involved investment schemes pushed through direct phone calls and digital media. Police say people should contact one of the main credit bureaus if they’ve handed over personal information like social insurance or passport numbers.
A 76-year-old man has died after skiing into a tree well at a resort in the West Kootenay. A local man did not survive his critical injuries have being discovered by another skier at Red Mountain in Rossland. While a name has not been officially released, the victim is a well-known community member with a passion for skiing.
This may be a good weekend to avoid heading up the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Whistler. Up to 15 cm of snow is expected, prompting Environment Canada to issue a weather advisory. Snow may also fall at higher elevations around the south coast.
