Summary
Temperatures could creep close to 40C in B.C.’s Thomson-Nicola region which raises the fear of possible flooding. Flood warnings or advisories have been posted by the River Forecast Centre. While this may be the first heatwave of the year, it won’t be nearly as bad as the one in June of 2021 that was followed by a devastating wildfire in Lytton.

Mounties have shot and killed a coyote who bit a two-year-old in Port Coquitlam’s Lions Park. Officers happened to be at the park, responding to concerns from people spotting the coyote - conservation officers were on another call in the Fraser Valley. The toddler suffered minor injuries in the Wednesday evening attack.
Former B.C. Highways Minister Harry Lali is leaving the NDP behind as he joins Kevin Falcon’s BC United. Lali blames his old party for losing touch with issues that matter in smaller communities such as doctor shortages, ER closures and mill shutdowns. Lali says BC United has moved in a direction that includes centre-left people like himself.
The Vancouver Folk Music Festival has unveiled its 2023 lineup of close to 40 acts and early bird adult ticket prices of more than $200. After some question about the event’s finances, organizers are now expecting another 30-thousand people to come to Jericho Beach from July 14 to July 16. Each year, over a thousand volunteers help support the VFMF.
