Vancouver Rundown Friday November 15, 2024
Summary
Canada Lands Company, a federal crown corporation, will sell its stake in a high-profile Vancouver housing project to an Indigenous led developer. Daily Hive reports CLC will sell-off its share of the Heather Lands, just west of Queen Elizabeth Park, to co-owner MST Development - owned by the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Close to 2,600 homes will be built in several phases on the 21-acre former RCMP headquarters land. The project will include a mix of leasehold strata units, social housing and so-called market housing.
Other news…
The federal government has promised close to $574 million in financing to help build close to a thousand rental homes in Vancouver. A project near Oakridge Town Centre is one of four developments that will get funding. The feds say the projects will help provide much-needed housing for families and individuals, close to their jobs.
Six points on a driver’s licence and a $368 fine - that’s the penalty for a truck driver following a crash that closed Highway One east of Chilliwack during last Friday’s morning rush. The 28-year-old from Alberta has been charged with driving without due care and attention - a Motor Vehicle Act offence. The crash was witnessed by an off-duty Highway Patrol officer who is providing most of the evidence.
Organizers of the Bright Nights Stanley Park train are now apologizing for what they admit are ‘deeply frustrating’ sales snafus. Many people who tried to get tickets online were hit with technical issues. Ultimately, the event was sold out. No new dates are being added.
Cloudy with some clearing on Friday. Rain for Saturday and Sunday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
