Other news…
The Vancouver Police Board may be pushing its luck, asking the City for an extra $23M in funding for 2025. The $434M budget was given the green light by the Board on Thursday and will now go to City Council. Mayor Ken Sim has been advocating for increasing resources for the police force. Green counsellor Pete Fry says if the new request is approved it would be difficult to keep property tax increases to 5.5 per cent.
$100,000 in damage - that’s what the owner of the Honda Way dealership in the Fraser Valley Auto Mall says is the tally of recent vandalism. Brendon Hall says those vandals have tossed rocks at his cars at least seven times, damaging hoods, fenders and windows. Hall is offering a cash reward in hopes the vandalism will stop.
The man who drove his car into Burrard Inlet in Port Moody has been sentenced to a year’s probation. The failed social media stunt earlier this year resulted in Jawad Mazen Fawwaz’s conviction for a single count of mischief under $5,000. Police in Port Moody received a call that the incident at the Rocky Point Boat Launch was being streamed live. Fawwaz will not have a criminal record if he complies with the court rules.
Rain easing off to a few showers but still windy on Friday. Showers on Saturday and Sunday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
