Vancouver Rundown Friday November 8, 2024
Summary
One of Vancouver’s longest standing and best-known homeless camps is gone…for now. Rangers moved in Thursday afternoon and started dismantling tents in CRAB Park. Those with the City say they have been working to make sure everyone has a place to go - but CRAB Park will be treated like all other Vancouver parks with no overnight camping allowed.
Other news…
A motorcyclist has died in an apparent police pursuit in East Vancouver Wednesday evening. The 21-year-old rider died at the scene after crashing into several cars and a tree near East Hastings and Victoria Drive. B.C.’s police watchdog, the IIO, has been notified as per protocol.
A judicial recount is expected to be finished sometime Friday in Surrey-Guildford. Currently, incumbent MLA Garry Beggs holds the seat with 27 votes more the BC Conservative candidate Honveer Singh Randhawa. A BC Supreme Court judge along with Elections BC officials and NDP and Conservative candidate reps are observing or involved in the recount.
A weak tornado did in fact hit Sechelt during Monday’s windstorm. That’s the conclusion of researchers from Western University’s Northern Tornadoes Project. Some trees and branches came down across power lines as the tornado touched down sometime after 10:30 Monday morning. No one was hurt.
Clouds with rain in the afternoon on Friday. Rain for Saturday. Showers on Sunday. Here are the latest details from our private weather station in Surrey.
