Vancouver Rundown Friday October 4, 2024
Summary
The City of Surrey has failed in its court action to get a Hells Angels clubhouse shutdown. The City had tried to get the rented home on 96 Ave. near 180 Street closed for violating bylaws. The small home is rented by the Hardside Hells Angels and is often used as a meeting place. No one actually lives there.
Other news…
A young woman has been arrested in the stabbing death of a 37-year-old man in East Vancouver. It happened Wednesday night or Thursday morning at a home near Kingsway and Boundary Road. Police believe the victim and suspect knew each other.
The BC Conservatives promise to end the ICBC monopoly. Leader John Rustad says a government under his party would introduce fair and competitive options by providing residents with a choice over insurance products. The party believes the move would lower most insurance rates.
The BC NDP promises to expand a pilot project for low-cost before and after school care in B.C. schools. That was one point of the party’s newly unveiled platform that concentrates on investments in schools, housing and mental health. Leader David Eby vows to have a dedicated mental health counsellor in every school. All classrooms would have an educational assistant to help with those who are struggling.
Rain Friday morning. Gusty wind in the afternoon. A mix of sun and clouds for Saturday and Sunday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
