Vancouver Rundown Monday April 22, 2024
Summary
Let’s hope it’s not a sign of things to come. Seven wildfires started in the Cariboo region on Saturday. The most notable one is the Burgess Creek fire between Williams Lake and Quesnel at 1,600 hectares. The fires are believed to be human caused and fanned by strong winds.
Oher news…
A Saturday morning fire in Aldergrove has left four houses damaged and three people hurt. Two of those people suffered minor burns while the other’s been treated for smoke inhalation. There’s no word on the cause.
Expect delays if you use Highway 99 through North Delta in the evenings through the end of May. Repairs to the 112 Street Overpass will reduce traffic down to a single lane in both directions at times with some full closures possible. Most of the work is supposed to happen between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. That overpass was hit by a truck back in December.
More than half-a-million people turned out for Surrey’s Vaisakhi Parade on Saturday, taking advantage of a cloud free day. Surrey’s Sikh celebration is said to be the largest of any of the Vaisakhi events in the world. There was one minor blip - the parade was halted for a short time when a scissor lift came in contact with some wires. No one was hurt.
Don’t expect much if any rain during this new work week. Monday will be sunny. Tuesday will be cloudy and then the rest of the week will have a mix of both. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
