The West Coast Express is back in service Monday but expect delays. That’s what TransLink’s telling Vancouver area media after the commuter train was off-line Thursday and Friday following labour strife at Canada’s two largest rail companies. The federal labour board has since ordered all rail workers back to work. The Teamsters vow to appeal the order.

Dressew is closing its doors. Vancouver’s oldest and perhaps best known fabric and notions retailer has announced plans to close and sell its West Hastings shop as well as its two warehouses. The family-owned business has been in operation since 1962 and has been at the West Hastings location since 1983. Owners say the past few years have been a struggle for every small business and they’re angry and heartbroken it has come to this.
It’s not a drive-thru. That said, a car backed into the Bubble World Restaurant at Richmond’s Union Square. The crash happened Saturday evening during the dinner hour but no one was hurt. Glass from the restaurant’s front window covered much of the sidewalk.
A truck driver’s been killed after his rig smashed through a bridge railing on Highway One near Sicamous. It happened early Saturday morning and the semi plunged below the river at Sicamous Narrows. The truck was not hauling any hazardous materials - there’s no word on environmental damage from its diesel tanks.
The work week is off to a rainy start with showers on Monday. The sun starts returning on Tuesday, but highs will still be shy of 20C. By Friday, It’s sunny and warm with highs in the upper 20s. Here are the latest details from our private weather station in Surrey.
