Vancouver Rundown Monday December 9, 2024
Summary
The BC Conservatives have turned on one of their own - 13 MLA’s are asking fellow Conservative Elenore Sturko to apologize to an ex-Vancouver Police Board member. They’ve sent a letter to Leader John Rustad saying Comfort Sakoma-Fadugba was a victim of ‘cancel culture.’ The Surrey-Cloverdale MLA says she thought it was appropriate for the Board to accept its vice-chair’s resignation following comments about gender transition and erasing Christian values from the lives of children.
Other news…
Former NDP MLA for Chilliwack, Dan Coulter, has suffered what’s being described as a ‘serious medical emergency.’ That word came late Friday from the NDP’s provincial director who noted Coulter’s been hospitalized. Coulter served as the junior minister for Infrastructure and Transit after being elected in 2020. He ran for re-election this past fall but was defeated by Conservative Heather Maas.
Close to 60 dogs have been rescued from a puppy mill in the Cariboo. The BC SPCA is recommending charges against a Quesnel woman after the dogs and a dozen birds were found in squalid conditions. Animal cruelty charges are likely - criminal charges are also possible.
Expect to pay more for natural gas in 2025. FortisBC has received the green light to raise residential rates by 17.5 per cent as of Jan 1. The price hikes are attributed to the cost of several project upgrades to the delivery system.
Cloudy with a slight chance of showers Monday. Cloudy Tuesday. A mix of sun and cloud on Wednesday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
