Vancouver Rundown Monday December 2, 2024
Summary
Tragic news in the search for a Surrey teen who has been missing since Oct. 22. The body of 18-year-old Joseph Maku has been found in Delta. In a Facebook post, Maku’s sister says the discovery was made on Friday but it may be a long time before the cause of death is known. Neither Delta Police nor Surrey Police are commenting on the death. Investigators believe Maku boarded several buses between King George Blvd and Scott Road before he disappeared.
Other news…
Users are being warned about a batch of bad drugs making the rounds, especially in Surrey. Fraser Health has issued an overdose alert about white power, often in gel caps, being sold as Mescaline but having O-PCE instead. The two drugs have very different effects and dosing levels. There are no details about how the drugs ended up tainted.
Langley will be home to a new Metro Vancouver regional park. The regional district says the 44-hectare park will link the Langley Municipal Regional Park to newly acquired private land including the wetlands of Kerfoot Creek and Little Campbell River. Metro Vancouver will undergo public consultation and stakeholder engagement before deciding how to develop the park.
Salmonella concerns have prompted a recall of some cucumbers sent to B.C. and several other provinces. SunFed Produce says its whole American cukes were sold between Oct. 12 and Nov. 26. Close to 70 people have become ill in the U.S. as a result of the salmonella tainted cucumbers.
Fog patches giving way to a sunny Monday afternoon. Expect even more sunshine for Tuesday and Wednesday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
