Summary
More than a dozen mosques in our province have banned NDP MLAs in light of comments made by Post Secondary Education Minister Selina Robinson. It’s part of a demand that Premier David Eby take action against Robinson in light of social media comments which she has already apologized for.
I understand that this flippant comment has caused pain and that it diminishes the connection Palestinians also have to the land. I regret what I said and I apologize without reservation.
Eby calls the original comments wrong and hurtful. He has not outlined any action against Robinson.
Other news…
The NDP didn’t dare go ahead with a Sunday night evening gala at the Aria Convention Centre in Surrey. In fact, the fundraiser was nixed as organizers became aware of multiple planned protests from groups wanting to keep the RCMP in Surrey, angry over Israel’s actions in Gaza, and folks upset about SOGI in B.C. schools. A future date has not yet been set.
Ambulance crews did not transport the victim of a shooting in downtown Chilliwack on Sunday afternoon. The targeted shooting happened before noon at Yale Road and Nowell Street. Fraser Valley News reports a mini-van was taken away on a flatbed truck with a police escort.
One person has died in a two vehicle crash on Old Yale Road in Abbotsford. An 84-year-old driver could not be revived when first responders came to the scene during the noon hour Saturday. The driver of the other vehicle was detained.
Some sunny breaks are expected Monday. More sunshine on Tuesday. Back to rain on Wednesday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
