Dozens of firefighters from B.C. and Alberta are heading to Los Angeles. The federal government is working with the provinces in deploying more resources as LA continues to deal with uncontained, deadly wildfires. More than two dozen people are now confirmed dead in fires that have consumed homes, businesses and land around Los Angeles County.
Other news…
Don’t ‘bum slide’ down steep trails - that’s the warning after rescuers had to help a woman on the Hollyburn Hiking Trail on Cypress. North Shore Rescue had to help the woman on Saturday after she broke her ankle while sliding down the hill on her backside. It appears her shoes with micro spikes got stuck in the snow while the rest of her body slid.
There’s no word on the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in the Port Kells area of Surrey on Friday night. No one was home when fire tore through the rancher style home on 92 Avenue at around 9:00 p.m. Water tenders had to be used as the home burned in an area without fire hydrants.
The final location in a small chain of Persian restaurants has closed. Zeitoon in Vancouver’s West End has closed its restaurant at 1795 Pendrell Street. Locations in Port Moody and North Vancouver’s Lonsdale neighbourhood closed back five years ago. Owners have not shared any details on what prompted the closures.
Morning fog Monday but otherwise a mix of sun and cloud. Mostly sunny with a few clouds for Tuesday and Wednesday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
