Summary
A prominent BC academic is in big trouble following her social media take on Donald Trump’s attempted assassination on Saturday. UBC prof Karen Pinder took to X saying, “Damn, so close. Too bad.” The medical school professor also posted, “What a glorious day this could have been,” before deleting the statements. A UBC statement says the university does not condone violence of any kind and is looking into the matter.
Other news…
A small fire near Merritt is just one of several new starts that are now being watched by the BC Wildfire Service. This wildfire broke out on Sunday and is likely a result of dry lightning. A province wide campfire ban that came into effect on Friday remains in place as crews continue to deal with hot temperatures and a lack of rain.
Be on the lockout for roaming bears around the Lower Mainland. Bear sightings have been reported in several populated areas including Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood and Coquitlam. Experts say the bruins are hunting for food and warning people to keep their garbage and compost secure.
A person has died in a two car crash that happened on 144 Street near 62nd Avenue in Surrey Sunday morning. It happened at around 4:30 and resulted in a closure that lasted for several hours. At least 18 people have died in road crashes around the province in the past week.
More sunny and warm conditions are in the forecast for this week with no rain in sight. Wednesday may be the hottest day with some inland temperatures in the low 30s. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
