Summary
Vancouver Police are beefing up oversight and patrols around the city following Saturday’s U.S. air strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The VPD says officers will be deployed to popular protest sites and certain places of worship, community centres and diplomatic buildings. In a media statement, the department says while conflicts in the Middle East are thousands of kilometres away, they reverberate in Vancouver’s [sic] diverse community and impact many people’s sense of security.

One of the busiest freeway offramps in Burnaby will be closed all summer. The Kensington Exit off Highway One will be shutdown to allow paving crews to get rid of a series of bumps that have plagued drivers for months. The Highways Ministry says the full closer is necessary for crews to safely complete the work.
A series of cougar sightings over the weekend has forced a closure of some areas of Whistler Blackcomb. Sunday’s sightings were mostly centred on the Blackcomb side of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. The trails are popular with mountain bikers.
Chrystia Freeland is tearing a strip off the B.C. government and provincial counterpart Mike Farnworth for the decision to build BC Ferries in China. The federal Transport and International Trade Minister says she’s dismayed by the move. Freeland has expressed serious concerns over awarding a state-owned Chinese shipyard the contract, questioning national security, trade relations and the use of taxpayer dollars. Her letter has not been made public.
