Vancouver Rundown Monday June 24, 2024
Summary
The family of a woman who died after being found injured in a home in Surrey last week says it’s learned more details from the media than homicide investigators. That lack of confirmed information continues even after friends and family gathered over the weekend for a vigil for Tori Dunn at Surrey Bend Regional Park. Dunn died after being found with life-threatening injuries at a home in Port Kells on June 16. Police are still not confirming that she died in a home invasion. A man was arrested near the home, a short time after the attack.
Other news…
Some of the injured students from a horrible bus crash in the Cariboo are now out of the hospital. School officials say there were plenty of broken bones but no life-threatening injuries in the crash itself. On Friday, more than 30 students and several adults were injured when a bus went down an embankment near Lac la Hache. It was returning with Grade 6 and Grade 7 students from a field trip near Williams Lake. A pedestrian died near the crash site.
Never mind the cool water, swimmers need to avoid taking a dip off West Vancouver’s Ambleside Park due to high levels of E.coli. The bacteria, attributed to people and bird shit, has prompted a warning for swimmers. Possible sources include boats, sewer runoff and leaky septic tanks.
Photos are now emerging showing a close encounter between some kayakers and a humpback off Bowen Island. The images shared on social media show a whale dangerously close to the boaters and only a few meters from shore back on June 15. Humpbacks are now returning to the area after feeding in the south pacific.
A mix of sun, clouds and possible showers on Monday. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy. Wednesday…it’s back to showers. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
