Vancouver Rundown Monday June 9, 2025
Summary
A third day of violent protests has prompted leaders to declare all of Downtown Los Angeles an unlawful assembly. That decision Sunday evening came after Donald Trump called in the National Guard as anti-ICE protesters condemned the latest rounds of crackdowns on illegal immigrants. Trump says up to 2,000 members of the National Guard had been called-up and close to 500 Marines remain on standby. Close to five dozen people have been arrested after protesters used Molotov cocktails, fireworks and rocks in their confrontations with police Sunday night.
Other news…
An 11-year-old has been killed in a boating collision off Cates Park in North Vancouver. It’s believed a boater had been towing the child in an innertube when it was struck by a speedboat on Saturday. That speedboat driver’s been arrested - police are trying to determine if booze or drugs are a factor.

A Sunday afternoon fire has gutted several residential rooms in a building containing Surrey’s Dhaba Dosa Indian Grill and the Crosstown Food Market. The fire broke out mid-afternoon at 196 Street and 60 Avenue. Arson has not been ruled out.
One person has been hurt after a small plane crashed in a Chilliwack field on Saturday afternoon. It happened near Highway One and Prest Road at around 4:45 p.m. The plane landed on its roof.
Mainly sunny on Monday with some windy periods. Warm. Sunny for Tuesday and Wednesday but a tad cooler. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
