Summary
A woman has survived being buried in an avalanche on Mount Seymour. CityNews reports she was snowshoeing with her husband when hit by a small avalanche at around 11:30 Sunday morning. It’s believed she spent up to 20 minutes under the snow before being retrieved by her husband. North Shore Rescue and paramedics provided care at the scene and the woman was able to leave without going to hospital.

A man convicted of killing University of Victoria student Marguerite Telesford in 1987 has been granted day parole. Scott Mackay is serving a life sentence for the murder even though the woman’s body was never found. Mackay’s day parole comes despite six unsuccessful applications in the past. He is also a suspect in another homicide and was previously convicted of attacks on sex workers.
A young man has been struck and killed by a taxi on the North Shore. It happened at West 1st Street and Forbes Avenue early Saturday morning. The 21-year-old pedestrian is being mourned by loved ones on the Squamish First Nation.
It’s an early start to Vancouver’s cruise ship season. The Monday morning arrival of the Disney Wonder marks the first ship during an expected record breaking year for the Port of Vancouver. Close to 1.3 million passengers are expected during the Alaska cruise season.
