Vancouver Rundown Monday March 24, 2025
Summary
Former Premier Christy Clark will run for the federal Liberals in Surrey’s Fleetwood-Port Kells riding according to long-time political watcher Bill Tieleman’s sources. That word came this weekend before current Liberal MP Ken Hardie confirmed he won’t be seeking re-election in the riding. Meanwhile, former Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson has announced he’s been tapped to run in Fraserview-South Burnaby. The federal campaign officially kicked off on Sunday with Canadians going to the polls in the general election on April 28. The three main party leaders are pushing hard with their ‘takes’ on how to best represent Canadian interests during the current trade war started by Donald Trump.
Other news…
Six people have become ill with two being rushed to hospital after an incident on a BC Ferry on Saturday. The passengers got sick in a stairwell of an afternoon sailing between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen. BC Ferries and police are withholding the cause of that illness. The incident caused a slight delay in sailings Saturday afternoon.
Who dumped a semi-automatic gun in some bushes in Stanley Park? That’s what Vancouver Police want to know after the gun was found near Lost Lagoon last week. Police hope someone will come forward to claim the gun or snitch.
Heavy rain over the weekend has closed a stretch of the Stanley Park Seawall. The walking and bike path is closed between Third Beach and the Lions Gate Bridge until further notice. The Park Board didn’t give any details but the seawall is prone to stabilization issues during stormy weather.
Heavy rain on Monday. Showers for Tuesday. Mostly cloudy on Wednesday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
