Vancouver Rundown Monday March 4, 2024

While conditions will improve later in the day, some heavy rain mixed with that snow could making driving difficult for several hours. Several warnings for drivers have been posted.
Other news…
A woman and her dog made it off a trail on Cypress Saturday night but not before North Shore Rescue was called out. The overdue call went out at around 7:00 p.m. but NSR says the hiker was well-prepared and able to reach safety despite a dead cell phone. Recent snow and temperatures hovering around the freezing mark are responsible for extra dangerous conditions on the North Shore hills.
The Seabird Island Band in the Fraser Valley is asking its members to look out for possible environmental damage after a Via Rail passenger train hit debris on some tracks near Agassiz, causing a small diesel spill. Via Rail says some cars and an engine were damaged in the Friday incident. No one was hurt. Some passengers say they could smell diesel - the train was not able to continue on to its eastern destinations.
Pokémon fans take note. The Pokémon Regional Championships will be coming to the Vancouver Convention Centre March 22-24. Thousands of trainers are expected to take part in competitions across platforms.
Some wet flurries in areas of the Lower Mainland will give way to sunny breaks on Monday. More sunny periods are expected for Tuesday and Wednesday with highs around 7C. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
