Vancouver Rundown Monday May 26, 2025
Summary
The City of Vancouver had to clear the Burrard Street Bridge of antisemitic graffiti ahead of Sunday’s Walk With Israel event. Several beams were spray painted with anti-Israeli symbols and words along with ‘Gaza.’ A statement from the City says while the right to free speech and peaceful protest is recognized, acts of hate and discrimination are not tolerated.

Two high profile political insiders are being sued by Mayor Ken Sim for defamation. Sim’s former campaign manager and chief of staff, Kareem Allam, and businessman and political pundit Alex Tsakumas are named in a suit that claims the two discussed an allegation that the mayor was pulled over for drunk driving but let go without documentation. An outside investigation concluded the DUI rumour was baseless. Sim is seeking general, aggravated and punitive damages.
Delta Police and Seaquam Secondary administrators spent the weekend asking parents to check-in with their kids about Friday night’s planned fights during Ladner’s May Day events. Police believe students from the high school in North Delta and those from Ladner’s Delta Secondary had preplanned a weekend of fights. Other details have not yet been made public.
It’s time to reduce Metro Vancouver from 21 municipalities down to only half-a-dozen - that’s the opinion of Mike Harcourt. The former NDP premier and Vancouver mayor says such a move would carve down costs and avoid disasters like the massive cost overruns on the North Shore water treatment plant. He says a city like Coquitlam would be better off including Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra.
A few showers Monday morning, clearing by the afternoon. A mix of sun and cloud on Tuesday. Sunny and warm with inland highs near 30 on Wednesday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
