Other news…
A commercial building in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood has been badly damaged in a Sunday morning fire. Crews managed to keep the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings near 71A Avenue and 134 Street. No one was hurt - there’s no word on a cause.
RCMP now think a fire that destroyed a derelict BC Ferry in Mission early Saturday morning was deliberately set. The City of Mission activated its Emergency Operations Centre after the Queen of Sidney went up in flames at around 2:00 a.m. There were initial concerns over possible toxins in the air. The ferry was retired in 2000 after nearly 40 years of service.
A couple Vancouver councillors hope the City will reinstate funding for school meal programs. Councillors Pete Fry and Rebecca Bligh hope Vancouver will restore funding noting the provincial and federal governments have not stepped up to replace school meal programs. Council will vote on the idea May 7.
Sunny but a bit windy near noon on Monday. Sunny with inland highs near 25 on Tuesday. A mix of sun, clouds and possible showers for Wednesday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey
