Summary

A BNSF train derailed on the easter edge of Delta’s Burns Bog early Sunday morning and surprisingly some serious questions are being missed or ignored by most reporters…the exception being those at the CBC. What was in the tank car resting on its side? How far is that car and the rest of the train from the stream that runs through that area? Or even this - what environmental impacts are possible and who is on the scene from the Ministry and City of Delta to check out the company’s claims? Most online media has reprinted the BNSF holding answers and claims that nothing is leaking along with the diversion statement of no one was hurt. CBC, at least, questioned that statement and discovered there has in fact been a small spill. This happened in one of the Lower Mainland’s most environmentally sensitive wildlife habitats and there’s been a tanker derailment…serious but true facts.

Other stories…

Part of the BMO at King George and 102 in Surrey went up in flames early Sunday morning. The building’s suffered some serious damage but no one was hurt. There’s no early word on the cause.

Vancouver Granville Liberal MP Taleeb Noormohamed’s appearance at a opioid epidemic townhall was crashed by pro-Palestinian protestors on Saturday night. The Vancouver event was interrupted by those wanting Noormohamed to officially call for a ceasefire between Israel and its opponents in Gaza. The Liberal MP did have a conversation with one of the protesters suggesting that such a call would have little impact but that dialogue was important.

Cases of avian flu in the Fraser Valley’s poultry sector continue to surge. Almost three dozen cases have now been reported and most are blamed on wild birds. Even though there is no direct connection between people and chickens, Provincial Medical Health Officer Doctor Bonnie Henry is asking all poultry workers to get their flu shots.

Monday - sun. Tuesday - rain. Wednesday - sun. That’s kinds of what we can expect but expect the sun to be mixed with a few clouds. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
