Vancouver Rundown Monday September 23, 2024
Summary
A man is dead and a well-known Brothers Keeper gangster is recovering from gunshot wounds after an exchange of gunfire on the Langley side of the Surrey-Langley boundary Saturday night. Vancouver Rundown posted exclusive video to social media after police and paramedics rushed a man later identified by the Vancouver Sun as gangster Barinder (Shrek) Dhaliwal to hospital. He was pulled from a car on 208th Street south of 80th Avenue in the Willoughby neighbourhood. That happened shortly after 6:00 p.m. in front of a busy restaurant and retail complex. Dhaliwal is expected to survive. First responders found a victim dead at another scene near 196th and 82nd, where the shooting likely occurred. IHIT is trying to figure out the circumstances but believes this is linked to B.C.’s gang war.
Other news…
Longtime Vancouver journalist Charlie Smith hopes to run in this current provincial election campaign as an independent in Richmond-Bridgeport. The former editor of the George Straight and past journalism instructor at KPU has reached out to his substack subscribers noting he needs the signatures of 75 locals in order to run for office. Smith is also bringing attention to his concerns that it’s difficult for an average person to run as an independent under B.C.’s election act.
NDP leader David Eby and Conservative leader John Rustad have spent their Sunday exchanging barbs over B.C.’s healthcare system. Eby says the Conservatives will ‘gut’ healthcare. Rustad calls that a lie - he says more money is needed in healthcare but the system has to be changed.
B.C. real estate and immigration lawyer Hong Guo has been disbarred for a third time. A panel of the BC Law Society has found the lawyer, who once ran for mayor of Richmond, is “ungovernable.” She was found to have enabled her bookkeeper to steal close to $7.5M in funds from clients. The panel has found Hong Guo “cannot be trusted to be accurate or show any insight into her behaviour.”
