Vancouver Rundown Thursday April 11, 2024
Summary
BC United claims some nurses at St. Paul’s are worried about open drug use and drug dealing at the hospital. Speaking during Question Period, MLA Elenore Sturko said one nurse mentioned drug dealers come and go inside the hospital. Health Critic Shirly Bond said nurses are seeing broken needles and crack pipes on the hospital floor. The claims are being disputed by at least one doctor as ‘rhetoric and false narratives.’
Other news…
Anti SOGI protests will be banned on B.C. school grounds. The Eby government’s law follows previous protests by some parents who argued they had a right to know if their children were being offered gender identity and sexual orientation resources. Police will now be able to arrest those who block entrances or intimidate people within 20 metres of school property.
No suspects. No victims. No witnesses. Still, Langley RCMP are looking into reports of shots being fired Wednesday afternoon in a busy retail area just east of the Willowbrook Shopping Centre. Investigators had a parking area taped off near 200 Street and Willowbrook Drive.
The Winners store downtown will be relocating to a new space in the former Steve Nash Fitness World location at 660 Granville Street. Daily Hive reports it will occupy the second and third floors of the mixed retail-condo building across from The Bay. The new location will be larger than Winner’s existing space at 798 Granville.
Showers off and on for Thursday. Clouds for Friday. The weekend will be mostly sunny. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
