Vancouver Rundown Thursday April 10, 2025
Summary
Starting next school year, Surrey will be pulling the plug on all field trips to the U.S. That includes all sports events, band recitals, dance competitions and other experiential field trips. The move comes after several high profile cases of Canadian citizens being detained by U.S. border guards. Surrey appears to be the first school district in B.C. to make such a move.
Other news…
One of the newly elected Vancouver City Councillors is under fire by Jewish groups for statements made on social media. Both the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs are demanding Sean Orr retract his comment that “everyone knows Vancouver city planners are controlled by a secret cabal of Jews who have a bunker in the earth’s core.” Orr says it was meant to be sarcastic. Still, Orr stands by his stance that Israel’s response to the Hamas terrorist attack is unwarranted.
Police are refusing to release the identity or any details behind the arrest of a Surrey resident in an international cybercrime investigation. That person is accused of operating a network of infected computers capable of delivering malware. The arrest is part of an international police effort dubbed ‘Operation Endgame’ that targets online malware loaders.
Port Moody has approved a major development that will include 39-storey rental towers and a large grocery store. The redevelopment project is on a 23 acre site on the south side of the Moody Centre SkyTrain station. It’s expected to provide over 1,000 homes in three high rise towers that will increase density and change the views for existing residents.
Rain and gusty wind Thursday. A mix of sun and cloud for Friday and Saturday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
