Vancouver Rundown Thursday April 18, 2024
Summary
Close to 200 more transit buses will be added to popular routes in Metro Vancouver. That’s the upshot of $300 million in extra taxpayer money thanks to the B.C. government. The feds will also be asked for help as the region tries to keep up with population growth.
Other news…
Those hoping to take SkyTrain, especially through parts of Burnaby, experienced huge delays for several hours early Wednesday afternoon. A ‘medical emergency’ shut down the line between Joyce-Collingwood and Edmonds. The Millennium and Canada lines weren't affected.
Don’t plan on using Vancouver’s Cambie Street Bridge Thursday evening. Film work will have the bridge closed between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Friday morning. The closure will also impact cyclists and pedestrians. There’s no word on what’s filming but recent production on the bridge involved scenes for Tron.
Kudos for YVR. Vancouver International has been named North America’s top airport by Skytrax. It’s one of several airport rankings - others don’t even put the airport in the top ten.
Thursday and Friday will be sunny with inland highs approaching 20C. It will be cooler, with showers, for Saturday. Here are the latest details from our private weather station in Surrey.
