Vancouver Rundown Thursday April 24, 2025
Summary
A large Wednesday morning fire has badly damaged several historic businesses along East Hastings in Vancouver. One of those is Wohlford & Company - formerly known as Dayton Boots - which had been operating in the same building for 75 years. Windsor Meats and The Indian Chefs have also been damaged. The fire started just after 4:00 a.m. - half a dozen people are displaced.
Other news…
Three teenage girls have now been arrested in an attack on a Chinatown resident who was standing outside her home, holding her cat. That attack - which was caught on video - happened near Gore Avenue and Keefer Street on April 9th. The woman says she suffered a concussion and whiplash after being punched and shoved by the girls, ages 15, 16, and 17.
Those who drive less than 15,000 km per year could now get a break on their insurance premiums. ICBC is upping its discounts on optional insurance from 10,000 to 15,000 km starting June 1. That means those drivers could pay up to 15 per cent less for things like third-party liability.
Whitecaps ticket prices have more than tripled in the hours leading up to the Thursday game with Inter Miami CF. That’s in anticipation of superstar Lionel Messi playing. Messi arrived in Vancouver on Wednesday even though his playing status has been uncertain. Some secondary-market tickets start at about $250.
Sunny and warm Thursday, with inland highs to 23C. Sunny and even warmer on Friday. A few clouds for Saturday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
