Summary
So, as of Wednesday (yesterday), B.C. has banned all plastic lids, bags and utensils from being given out by the province’s food providers. Lids for drinks can still be provided request-free for food delivery and at the drive-thru. It’s the latest in the province’s plan to cut hard-to-recycle plastics in an effort to thwart climate change.
Other news…
Don’t mess with a 72-year-old woman who is armed with a shovel. Vancouver Police say the woman used the shovel to fend off an intruder who broke into her home near Cambie and 41st Ave on Tuesday night. Investigators are trying to figure out the intruder’s motives but suspect mental health issues were involved.
“Go west young man” is an outdated statement in more ways than one. New stats show B.C. has recorded its largest interprovincial migration losses in more than 20 years. Most are moving to Alberta. B.C. lost close to 4,600 people to other provinces in the second quarter of this year. The cost of housing appears to be the major factor.
Bad news for local skiers and boarders. An approaching weather system won’t be translating to snow for the North Shore mountains. Cypress, Grouse and Seymour are all expecting closures in the days leading up to Christmas. This has been one of the more challenging starts to the ski season in recent memory.
The days leading up to Christmas will be mostly rainy. But take note - Friday also has the outside chance of thundershowers. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
