Vancouver Rundown Thursday February 29, 2024
Summary
West Vancouver’s mayor has been banned from practicing law for two years. The Law Society of B.C. says Mark Sager’s ban comes after he admitted to two cases of misconduct involving a person’s estate. Sager was previously fined $20,000 for improperly accepting a $75,000 gift from his godmother while writing her will.
Other news…
One person died in a fire in a vacant apartment building in Burnaby. The man passed away enroute to the hospital Tuesday evening. Another person was rescued - both were ‘unhoused.’ The flames were contained to a couple units on a third floor.
Avoid using the Granville Street Bridge for the next few months. Starting this weekend, a new and major phase of construction will cause significant delays including the closures of the downtown ramps. Detours will be set up - something that is sure to cause traffic nightmares in an already congested downtown core.
This week’s bout of heavy rain is good news for the troubled North Shore ski hills. Cypress, Grouse and Seymour have been able to open more runs. The hills faced previous closures due to warmer and drier conditions.
Some forecasters are calling for a mix of snow and rain overnight Thursday. Still, periods of heavy rain will be the more likely feature over the next couple days. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
