Summary
Drivers take note! Be prepared to cancel plans if they involve going out late Thursday afternoon or early Thursday evening. More snow is in the forecast and this time it could be combined with freezing rain and lots of ice. It’s a terrible combination for those just hoping to make a reasonable commute. On Wednesday, emergency crews had to deal with numerous weather related crashes and incidents across the Lower Mainland following hours of continuous heavy snow.
Other news…
A driver has been badly hurt after their car took a nose dive from a multi-level parkade at UBC. It crashed through a concrete barrier and hit the ground at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. It took Vancouver Fire Rescue more than a couple hours to free the person from the wreck.
A 68-year-old man has been arrested for murder after a woman, two years younger, died following a family dispute at a home in Chilliwack. RCMP say another man, 37, has been treated for non critical injuries. Investigators think this was a three way dispute and there’s no risk to the public.
The Vancouver Park Board is going cap-in-hand to City Council to ask for a one-time $5 million budget allotment to deal with the moth problem in Stanley Park. Looper moths have destroyed thousands of trees with close to 160 thousand needing to be removed. The request comes as Council seeks approval from the provincial government to deep-six the park board.
A mix of snow and freezing rain is possible late in the afternoon on Thursday. Wind gusts could be up to 40 km/h in some areas. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
