Summary
Breaking News: A passenger plane has crashed into the Potomac River in Washington D.C. It’s believed 60 passengers and four crew were on the American Airlines regional jet when it reportedly collided with a Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport Wednesday evening - a closure will remain in effect until at least Friday. It appears the pilots of the airliner were not aware of the approaching helicopter. Search and recovery efforts continued through the night. There’s no reliable early word on the possible cause of the crash.

The Eby government has tapped Ravi Kahlon to be a ‘war room’ minister for the province in the battle against Donald Trump’s planned tariffs on Canadian goods. Kahlon says B.C. cannot live for four years with constant threats coming from the Trump administration. The otherwise Housing Minister says it’s hard to speculate would will happen on Saturday when those tariffs are expected to take hold.
A man from Squamish has now been charged in the shooting of a husband and wife in Surrey while a child sat in the backseat. Police now say the 21-year-old was arrested back on January 15 after officers raided properties in Squamish, Delta and Surrey. The two victims suffered serious injuries when a man shot at their car in Newton on December 16.
Vancouver Canucks anthem singer Jugpreet Bajwa says he wasn’t seriously hurt after being struck by a distracted driver near Science World on Monday. The beloved singer, who is blind, was crossing the street with the help of a woman when both were hit. They’ve been checked out in hospital. The driver has apologized.
