Summary
A former commercial pilot has been charged with terrorism offences in the hijacking of a single-engine plane from Victoria. Shaheer Cassim, a long-time environmental activist, is the man arrested by police after a plane from the Victoria Flying Club touched down at YVR. Air traffic around Vancouver International was halted for a short time Tuesday afternoon as the Cessna 172 Skyhawk circled the airport. Cassim was arrested at gunpoint.

A 25-year-old woman has now been charged in a brutal street attack in Langley that left a 37-year-old victim with serious burns to the face. RCMP say the victim was hit with an unknown substance near the bus loop at 204 Street and Logan Avenue last week. Samantha Elizabeth Florence Hall is charged with aggravated assault and remains in custody until her next court date.
Premier David Eby will be announcing his Cabinet shuffle Thursday morning. There’s some speculation Ravi Kahlon will be the new Jobs Minister and Christine Boyle will be shuffled into Housing. This is the first shuffle since the ministers were sworn in back in November.
Longtime CBC Vancouver weatherman Phil Reimer has passed away. Reimer was a local weather presenter on TV from 1977 to 1995. He was also heard on CKNW from 1996 to 2006. Reimer also produced two TV shows: Doctor Doctor and Legal Wise. He passed away in hospital in Vancouver, with his son and daughter by his side. Phil Reimer was 84.
