Summary
More B.C. families will now qualify for provincial rebates on newly installed heat pumps. The Energy Minister has bumped up the combined-income qualification from $115, 000 to $186,000 saying cooling is absolutely necessary for health and well-being. Homeowners can now apply for up to $5,000 to help cover the installation costs. The costs of installing heat pumps can range up to $20,000.

A wrong-way driver who caused a deadly crash in the Massey Tunnel has been sentenced to two years less a day. Sundeep Singh Mann, 42, had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily injury. The September 2, 2020 crash killed Ky Tran, 61, and seriously injured her husband.
Vancouver has chosen San Francisco-based Lime to operate as the city’s e-scooter share service. Lime beat out several other proposals including one from Vancouver Bike Share which currently operates the Mobi bike share system. The multinational company already serves many B.C. cities including Richmond and Coquitlam. The contract is for five years with options to extend it for three more terms…for a total of 20 years.
Longtime Surrey Board of Trade CEO and President Anita Huberman is calling it quits. Huberman has announced she will step down at the end of August to focus on the next chapter in her life. She started working at the business organization at the age of 19. Since 2007, Huberman has served as its CEO and President.
It should hit 25C Thursday and 32C by Sunday - those summer temperatures are accompanied by nothing but sunshine for the next five days at least. Overnight lows are expected to dip to about 15C. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
