The regional district’s Chief Administrative Officer, Jerry Dobrovolny, was not in attendance despite concerns over multi-billion-dollar cost overruns on the Northshore wastewater treatment plant. On Tuesday, Metro Vancouver Chair George Harvie surprised many directors by confirming there would be a review of the boondoggle.
Several roads were closed and homes evacuated on the west side of New Westminster on Wednesday over fears of a ‘suspected explosive device.’ The Explosive Disposal Unit was called-in but there’s no word on what, if anything, was actually found. Sections of Hamilton, Kingston, 13th and 14th streets were closed for several hours.
It took Chilliwack fire crews less than an hour to get a handle on a fire at Visscher Lumber on Lickman Road Wednesday afternoon. A building was fully engulfed when fire fighters arrived but the flames were kept away from the main area of the mill. There’s no early word on what caused the fire.
Thursday will be very warm around much of the Lower Mainland with highs in the upper 20s in most areas. Friday will be sunny and a tad cooler with clouds and possible showers moving in for the weekend. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
