Vancouver Rundown Thursday June 5, 2025
Summary
Crews are fighting a small wildfire that broke out late Wednesday afternoon near Okanagan Falls. Several aircraft, along with volunteers firefighters and BC Wildfire ground crews, have been trying to contain it. People are being asked to stay out of the area.
Other news…
Fire has engulfed a vehicle transport truck and several of its cars on the Okanagan Connector. Several photos posted to social media Wednesday evening showed flames and smoke coming from the vehicles. There’s no word on a cause or possible injuries.
It’s a blow for Vancouver renters dealing with bad landlords. Council has narrowly defeated a motion to bring back its renters’ office. Those opposed say the Tenant Advocacy Office was hardly used and funding could be better directed to renter support groups. However, councillor Lucy Maloney says renters don’t feel like the city has their backs.
Organizers and the City of Vancouver have decided to go-ahead with a home opener street party before the BC Lions game on Saturday. The CFL team had considered cancelling that pre-game party outside BC Place in light of the Lapu Lapu Day festival tragedy. Now, police and organizers say safety will be the top priority as fans gather ahead of the Leo’s game against the Edmonton Elks.
Sunny but windy on Thursday. Warm. Sunny and warm for Friday and Saturday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
