Vancouver Rundown Thursday March 7, 2024
Summary
A bombshell accusation against David Eby’s NDP - and it comes from one of their own. Former Cabinet Minister and prominent Jewish community member Selina Robinson has quit the B.C. NDP caucus citing anti-semitism. She says the premier rejected her suggestion of antisemitic and anti-Islamophobic training for the caucus. Last month, Robinson left her role as B.C.’s Post Secondary Education Minister after a backlash to comments that Gaza was founded on a ‘crappy piece of land with nothing on it.’
Other news…
A Fraser Valley man is now identified as the victim of a deadly shooting outside a lowrise apartment building in Toronto. Jasmit Badesha, 25, of Mission was killed late Sunday night. Police are not commenting on suspects in what appears to be a targeted hit.
A man from Coquitlam is sentenced to more jail time for trying to burn down his family home. Jin Ming Han has been given credit for the two years and 30 days he’s already spent in jail following his arson charges. Now he’ll spend another 11 months. His actions stem from a marriage breakdown that happened at the height of the pandemic.
Vancouver Police have managed to track down a hit-and-run driver after an 80-year-old woman was struck and killed while crossing Nanaimo Street near East Hastings. It happened at around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. Police are now hoping to get video as they build their case.
Enjoy Thursday’s sunny breaks. Rain and strong winds are in the forecast for Friday and the weekend. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
