Vancouver Rundown Thursday March 21, 2024
Summary
Another terrible story is highlighting B.C.’s continued problems with emergency room closures - especially in hospitals outside the major cities. Tish Losier says paramedics advised her to wait a couple hours for Prince Rupert’s ER to re-open after her husband suffered several epileptic seizures Monday morning. That was thought to be better than making a 140-kilometre drive to the nearest open ER at the hospital in Terrace. Fortunately, the seizures subsided. So far, Health Minister Adrian Dix has not commented on the latest ER closure.
Other news…
Search and Rescue teams from Hope and Chilliwack rescued a person and two dogs who had been missing in the backcountry for close to two days. The teams reached that person on Tuesday near Hope. A chopper from Valley Helicopters helped in the rescue.
The Wednesday afternoon rush hour was extra difficult for many drivers using the George Massey Tunnel. Crews had to repair a power line in the tunnel due to safety reasons. That caused one lane to be closed and huge backups in both directions.
A man’s been arrested after chasing people with a knife in Downtown Vancouver late Wednesday morning. At least one person was stabbed, suffering serious injuries. The incident forced a brief closure of Cambie Street between Smithe and Robson.
Thursday will have a mix of sun and cloud and then it’s back to rain for Friday and Saturday. The extended forecast has showers for most of Spring Break. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
