Drug use is believed to be the cause of a fire at an SRO on Granville Street near Nelson Street. Crews battled flames and heavy smoke in a suite on the fifth floor early Wednesday morning. A man had to be rescued after the fire broke out.
Vancouver could pave the way for more patios on Water Street in Gastown this summer. Council is considering waiving the fees for small patios and sidewalk sales. The proposal would cover June 1 to the end of September.
Some White Rock residents carried signs saying “we want justice’ at a packed meeting at a community hall on Tuesday. RCMP heard from those concerned about two recent stabbings along the promenade. Both attacks were on young South Asian men - one victim died, the other received non life threatening injuries. Area residents asked why the RCMP did not issue a warning after the first attack. The Mounties promise to increase patrols.
