Summary
A suspect is in custody after two Israeli Embassy staff members were shot dead in Washington, D.C. Wednesday night. Thirty-year-old Elias Rodriguez of Chicago turned himself over to security and police after the deadly shooting outside an event at the Capital Jewish Museum. Witnesses say he shouted ‘Free Palestine” after being arrested. Police also say he told them where his gun was stashed. The shooting has been condemned as a terrorist attack and targeted hate crime by numerous Jewish leaders.

Vancouver Police say a restorative justice circle was used after antisemitic remarks were directed at Jewish elementary students from those the same age at a neighbouring public school. The remarks were made to Grade 6 students last month during a lunch hour, next to Vancouver Talmud Torah. Police say the slurs came from those at Emily Carr Elementary. Those with Talmud Torah say they’re satisfied the matter has been dealt with appropriately.
One person’s been arrested after heavily armed officers surrounded a home in Tsawwassen late Wednesday afternoon. Those living along Gilchrist Drive were kept away from their homes as police spent several hours trying to coax a person holed-up inside the house. There’s no word on charges.
A hit-and-run driver has been charged close to nine-months after a Langley RCMP officer was injured. Charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm, dangerous driving and failing to stop stem from a crash that occurred on 208 Street near 50A Avenue on Aug. 9. RCMP say the incident has had a profound impact on the officer who is still in the process of recovering.
