Summary
Premier David Eby has announced ICBC rebates of $110 for holders of close to 3.6 million auto insurance policies. Those rebates will apply to both personal and commercial ICBC policy holders and come as the insurance corporation claims it’s had a strong financial performance. Basic insurance rates will remain the same until March 31, 2026.
Breaking news: B.C. government networks have been hit by ‘sophisticated cybersecurity incidents.’ That word came early Wednesday evening in a statement issued by Premier Eby’s office. An investigation is underway to determine what information’s been accessed.

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke claims information that came out in a five day judicial review shows both the B.C. Solicitor General and the Chief of the Surrey Police Service were not candid with the public about the number of officers needed to fully staff a city force. In her mayor’s report, Locke says the court case makes it clear how ill-conceived and secretive the transition process has been, right from the beginning. Justice Kevin Loo has not said when he will render his decision about the RCMP to SPS transition.
All London Drugs stores have now reopened after last week’s cyberattack. The Richmond-based company says it still has no evidence of any customer information being compromised. Staff were paid on their normal cycles and given other tasks during the shutdown of 79 stores in Western Canada.
Expect police to crack down on public drinking and rowdy behaviour as this second round of the NHL playoff series continues. The Vancouver Police Department says it will deploy as many officers as needed to maintain public safety. The City of Vancouver plans to hold a public viewing party at Oaks Meadows Park on Sunday.
