Vancouver Rundown Thursday November 14, 2024
Summary
Wednesday was a recovery day as yet another November storm swept across the Lower Mainland. Close to 20-thousand homes and businesses were without power due to high winds. Those conditions also prompted up to five-sailing waits for BC Ferries on the Mainland-Vancouver Island runs. Some commuters also had to contend with pooling water, slowing down traffic in many areas.
Other news…
The Surrey Police Service says it’s ready - many others doubt it. The city force is scheduled to become the police of jurisdiction, taking over the role from the Surrey RCMP on Nov.29. Global News received an internal memo outlining significant concerns including future RCMP workspaces and the transfer of investigative support services. Meanwhile, one municipal police force in Alberta is running radio ads in a recruitment effort to get Lower Mainland officers to join their service.
Three cocaine smuggling suspects have been arrested as police raid a heavily fortified drug operation in Surrey. Guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition and several kilos of drugs were seized. The operation is believed to be linked to Mexican drug cartels.
Avoid contact with sick or dying birds. The warning comes from Health Canada as a teen from the Fraser Valley remains in critical condition in BC Children’s Hospital. Poultry farms in the Valley continue to be checked-out for any new signs of avian flu. There are also indications some wild snow geese may be infected.
Mainly cloudy on Thursday. A mix of sun and cloud for Friday. Back to rain for the entire weekend. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
