Vancouver Rundown Thursday November 21, 2024
Summary
We now know some of the strongest gusts reached up to 170 km/h in that windstorm that hit Vancouver Island and parts of the Lower Mainland Tuesday evening. BC Hydro also says close to 300,000 customers were without power at the peak of the ‘cyclone bomb.’ Vancouver’s Langara College had to cancel classes Wednesday morning over concerns about fallen trees on power lines. Meanwhile, many parts of the Fraser Valley experienced very few problems during the storm.

An 18-year-old boy from Richmond and a 15-year-old girl from Surrey died after a car went off the road between 16th and 32nd avenues at around 3:40 a.m. There’s no word on what they were up to at the time of the crash.
The so-called ‘living wage’ for Metro Vancouver is now more than $27 an hour. The left-wing Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives says that’s a 5.3 per cent increase over last year. B.C.’s current minimum wage is $17.40 per hour.
Mainly cloudy on Thursday with the chance of showers. Gusty wind at times. Rain and wind on Friday. More showers for Saturday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
