Summary
Three people died in an intense house fire north of Duncan on Monday. All bodies were found at the scene. The updated details from the RCMP come more than two days after firefighters from North Cowichan, Maple Bay, Crofton and Chemainus were called to put out the fire. That house is now rubble. There’s still no word on how the fire started.
Other news…
A tossed cigarette is to blame for a fire that damaged four homes in East Vancouver earlier this month. In its update, Vancouver Fire Rescue says the discarded smoke ignited some combustibles and the flames spread to nearby bushes and the homes. Close to a dozen people were displaced by the Oct. 7 fire.
An Abbotsford teacher has now turned-in his teaching certificate after pleading guilty to sexual assault and other charges last year. Khalid Dardir’s convictions involve an intimate partner and not a student. He was suspended from his position as a teacher at an Abbotsford middle school as soon as the criminal charges were filed.
Wire thieves are responsible for damage to phone lines in Abbotsford earlier this month that cut service including the ability for some to dial 911. Abbotsford Police say those thefts resulted in a loss of $100,000. It’s the latest in an uptick of wire thefts around the Fraser Valley.
Showers Thursday, giving way to a mix of sun and cloud later in the day. Rain on Friday. Sun and cloud for Saturday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
